Our Approach to Teaching and Learning
At our school, every student matters. We are committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based teaching that supports each learner to thrive. Our recently reviewed instructional model—a whole-school framework that guides how teaching and learning happens in every classroom—ensures consistency, clarity, and a shared understanding of what great teaching looks like.
Drawing on the latest research from the Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO) and informed by Cognitive Load Theory, our teachers focus on delivering clear, explicit lessons that build deep understanding without overwhelming students. Learning intentions are shared daily, and we use daily review strategies to help students connect and consolidate what they’ve learned.
We use the Victorian Curriculum to plan rich, purposeful learning experiences in English and Mathematics. Teaching is targeted to each student’s needs through ongoing continuous assessment, and every student has individual learning goals to guide their progress and celebrate their growth.
We have dedicated Learning Specialists in literacy, numeracy, and data and assessment, who lead curriculum teams, coach individual teachers, and provide regular professional learning and feedback. This ensures consistency in lesson delivery, assessment, and high-impact teaching strategies across every classroom.
In Literacy, focused small-group instruction ensures students are working at their instructional level to build confidence, fluency and comprehension. Our approach to literacy is grounded in the Big Six of Reading—oral language, phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension—which form the foundation of the new English Curriculum 2.0 in Victoria. In the early years (Prep–Year 2), we use a systematic phonics approach to build strong foundational reading and writing skills.
In Mathematics, our Maths Leader supports staff to strengthen their practice with an emphasis on number fluency, problem-solving and conceptual understanding. We are also embedding the updated strands of the Mathematics Curriculum 2.0, which include Number, Algebra, Measurement, Space, Statistics and Probability, and the new strand Mathematical Structures, to ensure students are developing a deeper understanding of mathematical thinking and reasoning across all year levels.
Every part of our teaching and learning approach is aligned with the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0, which supports teachers to collaborate, reflect and improve—ensuring every student experiences high-quality learning every day.
